Smackdown Needs Some Major Improvements
Smackdown is in a desperate need of a complete reboot immediately. Long gone are the days of the great tag team division and a good main event scene. Smackdown used to be the show that everybody watched every week and also was the complete opposite of Monday Night Raw. You had the likes of Edge, Rey Mysterio, John Cena, Kurt Angle, Paul Heyman etc. The amount of great talent Smackdown had was second to none and the booking was just as good. The goal of Smackdown was to be a rival to raw and give fans a alternative for people who were tired of the same old stuff on Raw every week( especially during the HHH reign of terror). Now, fast forward 15 years later and it honestly doesn't even look like the same show. You have a terrible world champion in Jinder Mahal who was a jobber his entire career until like 2 months ago. The tag team division is on life support with the same two tag teams in the USOS and The New Day. Now, don't get me wrong, The Usos are a great heel team but they need competition and a good face team to feud with. You have the revival but I haven't seen them in weeks and Enzo and Cass are a dead team. I mean, what's left, Breezango or the Ascension. That doesn't really look like serious tag teams so we our tag division is trash. Now, let's move on to the Main Event scene because this needs to be addressed. We have a jobber, a loser, someone who lost matches their entire career is all of a sudden World Heavyweight Champion. I cannot nor will not take Mahal seriously, especially without a proper build as anybody who is champion should have. He beats Randy Orton two straight championship matches and now he is a main eventer. I don't buy it and quite frankly, it is going to take me a long time to look at him as anybody but a jobber. The Main event scene is pretty scare with AJ Styles, Nakamura, Orton, and after that, the well gets pretty dry especially with Owens as U.S champion shows how lackluster the main event scene. Lastly, but certainty not the least, the booking team needs to be addressed. Smackdown needs a complete separate writing staff from the jokes that they call writers on Raw. One of the reasons why Smackdown was so good back was because there was a separate writing staff with Paul Heyman on the creative team. Now, we have Hollywood writers who wouldn't know real wrestling if you tied them up and forced them to watch 24 hours of Jim Cornette tapes. Enough with the bad writing, the goofy comedy segments, and a lack of consequence in all the storylines. Now, there is a place for comedy in wrestling of course, you want to have a good laugh when you watch wrestling. But, it should be more of a serious show and storylines need better writing. So, to sum it up, build up your tag division, separate the writing teams, and get more superstars from the mid card and put them in the main event scene like a Zayn, Corbin etc. Make them look credible and give fans a reasons to care about these great wrestlers and in turn will make Smackdown a greater show.
